Hilary Harris – Organism (1929 – 1999)
the movie called ‘Organism’ is directed by Hilary Harris who was winner of Academic Award documentary filmmaker. The film which won the Academy Award is ‘Seawards the Great Ships’ shows in 1962. Also, Organism wins Academy Award and shot over 15 years. it shows that how people live in the city life with many different point of view. He pioneered and time-lapse film making technique to shot a unique experimental point of view.
The beginning of this story is the city around the world which usually take in rush hour. And it shots in New York city. This film show us a lot of things. It shows that people walking on pedestrian cross, driving vehicles, construct and deconstruct buildings and so on. Also, it shows sunset and sunrise in the city. After that, the scene is keep changing but the concept is same. After that, the film controls the speed up and down.
The soundtrack in this film is perfect match to the scene. This film doesn’t have speech at all. So, the music will changes as the scene change. if there is no music, it look like a random video with no meanings. However if the sound is enable, it change the viewer’s emotion.
After I end this film, I felt that ‘this is the perfect match of the project’. It shows different angles of camera to change the viewer’s feeling. The one we’ve looking something is not all. We can watch same thing in many different ways.
